Futurism and Foresight

Futurism and foresight? Big picture thinking? What next?

If you watch the news then you know the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Just a thirty minute update nightly can have your anxiety levels peeking, and no report is ever thinking beyond some current catastrophe.  You may as well sit in the corner with a sign saying ‘The end is nigh’ and be done with it.

Or you could spend some time with a futurist.

Turns out the human race is capable of big things, and there are humans applying themselves to long term visionary thinking that could push humanity forward.  Imagine that, a world with a shinning future.

We’ve been travelling the world talking to all kinds of folks about what the future could look like and now we’ve put it all into a neat little streaming series called Futurists.World.

In this weeks episode 4 of the Moonshine Moonshot podcast we’re discuss why we made the series and how we’ve turned our impact filmmaking skills to a different purpose- to influence humanity to think long term and be future focused.

How can a film generate impact?

How Can A Film Generate Impact?

How can a film generate impact and what does that even mean?

We’re glad you asked!

After pouring your time and energy into a project be it big or small, you want to see results. But so often it’s a lacklustre outcome and your left scratching your head as to why it didn’t get the attention it deserved?  Sure, your mum loved it, but let’s face it, she’ll love anything you do.

We hear about it all the time.  The marketing team or ad agency, PR film etc promised it would have big results and was worth the investment, but all you hear is crickets.  No thumbs up or the treasured heart emoji, no comments, likes or shares.  And now you’re left with a bill and not much to crow about.

But, with a bit of planning at the outset, you can avoid having your project land in the vast silent vacuum of space and get it in front of an audience who craves it. (and shares and likes, heart.)

You’ll have them craving more, leading to high levels of engagement, big up take on your call to action, and plenty for you to rave about.  In short, your project will make an impact.

And that’s what impact film making is all about, getting people do something meaningful that leads to an outcome.

In this episode of the Moonshine Moonshot series Mike Hill and Sue Collins are breaking down how to generate impact with film and they’re sharing lots of info on how they’ve turned their content into world changing documentaries.

4:39 – A real world impact case study.

What is storytelling for impact?

What is storytelling for impact?

So. What is storytelling for impact?

Ok, it’s probably not a burning questions but it just might be one you’re curious about.

Time and again we speak to people that have a really important mission or a great business but they just can’t find the right way to get their message across. Working out where to start and what platform to use is really confusing.  There are so many options with everything from blogs, podcasting, websites, social media and traditional advertising.  And some even freak out “Ah, storytelling, sounds like a creative thing.”

Not to mention the icky idea of being in front of a camera.

Here’s a secret, if you can craft a great story it won’t matter which platform you choose because it will work on all of them and people will love it.

It will engage them, intrigue them and you can end with a call to action that takes them to the next step in joining your tribe.

And that is impact storytelling.

In this episode of the Moonshine Moonshot series Mike Hill and Sue Collins are breaking down impact storytelling, specifically visual storytelling, and giving you tips on how to craft yours.

They‘re talking about impact, unpacking what that means and how you can leverage storytelling to get folks taking the action you need them to take.

0:58 – What is visual storytelling?

1:20- Why does visual storytelling work better than text?

4:12 – Why written content is still important for some things?

4:55 – How video and text work together?

9:26 – Why storytelling in communication is so important.

HOW TO MASTER YOUR MESSAGE

How to master your message.

So how do you master your message?

Mike and Sue have been working at crafting messages for a decade and they are all about making an impact. Their motivation to share this with you comes down to the old adage ‘if a tree falls in the forest and no-one is there to hear it- did it make a sound?’

Don’t let your message be the silent tree falling.
